Frequently asked questions
How are SIP returns calculated?
The calculator applies the future-value-of-annuity formula with monthly compounding: FV = P × ((1+i)ⁿ − 1)/i × (1+i), where i is the monthly return and n the number of instalments.
What return should I assume?
Equity mutual funds have historically delivered 10–14% over long periods, but returns are not guaranteed. Use 12% as a moderate assumption and 8–10% to be conservative.
Is SIP better than a lump sum?
SIP spreads your entry price across market cycles, reducing timing risk. If you already have a corpus, lump sum can beat SIP in rising markets — many investors do both.
